Congratulations and welcome Dr. Kate back to our office after her maternity leave! At Oceanic Dental we understand how important it is for pregnant women to take care of their overall health, and dental health is no exception. Here are some tips on dental care during pregnancy.
  • Keep up with regular dental visits: It is essential to maintain regular dental visits during pregnancy. A woman’s oral health can change during pregnancy, and a dental professional can monitor these changes and provide appropriate care.
  • Inform your dentist that you are pregnant: Be sure to inform your dentist that you are pregnant, especially during the first trimester. X-rays and certain medications may not be safe during pregnancy, so your dentist can adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
  • Brush and floss regularly: Brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. These dental issues can be more prevalent during pregnancy due to hormonal changes.
  • Eat a balanced diet: A balanced diet during pregnancy is not only essential for the developing baby but also for the mother’s dental health. Eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Use fluoridated products: Using fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash can help prevent tooth decay. However, it is crucial to use these products as directed and not swallow them.
  • Manage morning sickness: Morning sickness can increase the risk of tooth decay due to the stomach acid from vomiting. Dr. Kate advises rinsing with a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a cup of water to neutralize the acid after vomiting.
