Porcelain Crowns in Huntington Beach
Well-fitting, beautiful crowns
A crown is a cap that completely covers the tooth. Crowns are generally made out of porcelain or some other type of ceramic. In some cases a porcelain crown will be fused to a strong shell of metal, such as gold for greatest longevity.
Our durable Crowns
We use porcelain or zirconia for our crowns. These are durable and safe materials, as well as beautiful and natural-looking. For the back teeth, a harder material such as zirconia may be used, as these teeth often experience more biting pressure than front teeth.
To ensure that the fit is perfect we take X-rays before and after the crown placement. Our top-notch lab can make custom shades and shapes to ensure your crown looks just right with the rest of your teeth.
In the second visit your crown is fitted. We stand behind our crowns, so if the fit is not perfect a replacement is made.
What are Crowns used for?
Porcelain crowns have a variety of purposes, the most common being to cover a tooth where a very large cavity has severely weakened the tooth.
Other reasons crowns are used include:
- To protect a tooth that has had a root canal. Teeth are more susceptible to fracture as a result of root canal therapy, as the dead tooth is now less resilient.
- Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants, in which case a crown is attached to the implant.
- Crowns can be used for aesthetic purposes to improve the color, shape or style of a smile. Usually veneers are employed for this purpose, but in some cases a patient needs full coverage, such as when there is too much decay, the tooth has a fracture or the patient grinds down on his or her teeth.
- Crowns can also be used to correct a poor bite (how the teeth come together).
